Washington (May 16, 2019) – In response to passage of H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, the following statement can be attributed to Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) President and CEO Ceci Connolly:
“We are heartened the House has voted to put patients first, taking critical steps to ensure better access to affordable health coverage and address out of control prescription drug prices.
“Measures to strengthen the individual market are critical as ACHP member health plans are setting rates for 2020. Restoring a commitment to the market will help keep premiums in check and provide more coverage options in communities across the country.
“Putting an end to anti-competitive behavior by drug manufacturers through passage of the CREATES Act and helping speed generic drugs to market will spur competition and reduce costs for consumers at the counter. We look forward to continuing to work with Congress and the Administration on bipartisan solutions that lower outrageous drug prices and stabilize the individual market for millions of Americans who rely on it for access to affordable health coverage.”
