Learn about the importance of payer-provider collaboration in evidence dissemination and adoption, hear success stories from health plans across the US, and take with you five best practices that are replicable and scalable for change.
In 1950, medical knowledge doubled every 50 years. Today that estimate has shrunk to less than three months. As the rate of new discovery explodes, how can clinicians possibly keep up? Often, they can’t. It takes an average of 17 years for a new medical breakthrough to make its way to the point of care.
NEW research from the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) shows that strong partnerships among health care providers and payers result in accelerated adoption of evidence-based care for patients. The report, “Accelerating Adoption of Evidence Based Care: Payer-Provider Partnerships,” illustrates how collaboration among health plans, physicians and communities speeds the delivery of clinical evidence from the lab room to the exam room. The report also finds that community health plans have a unique ability to influence provider behavior, aiding in evidence-based adoption and delivering better value.
The organizations studied — nonprofit, community-based, provider-aligned health plans — have joined forces with their physician partners to reduce opioid prescribing; eliminate unnecessary labor inductions; cure Hepatitis C; improve diabetes and hypertension control; increase depression screening and treatment; and reduce surgery costs, among other results.
Join us for a conversation on the future of evidence-based care. Hear more about the role of health plans in improving care, reducing costs and generating better health outcomes for patients nationwide.
