ACHP Quality Collaborative May Meeting

May 24, 2017 @ 8:00 am - May 25, 2017 @ 1:00 pm

Event Navigation

ACHP was pleased to host the Quality Collaborative meeting in San Diego.

The quality collaborative met concurrently with the clinical collaborative (medical directors and clinical executives), behavioral health directors and financial leaders, providing a great opportunity to network with colleagues across the member organizations and participate in joint discussions over the course of the meeting. Discussion sessions on May 24 focused on alternative payment. The second day of the meeting (May 25) was reserved for leaders of each clinical collaborative only.

Meeting Materials

In preparation for the meeting, we have compiled a set of pre-reading materials, all of which relate to the topics on the agenda. They are designed to set the foundation for our discussions and will be referenced throughout the meeting.

We ask that you read the “Recommended” materials as part of your preparation. The articles designated as “Further Reading” are pieces we think are valuable, but if you have limited time we would rather you concentrate that time on the recommended materials.

Recommended Pre-work:

  • Jacque J. Sokolov, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer, SSB Solutions, Inc., will provide a look at the important move from volume to value-based payment models and what the future holds. He has provided this slide presentation as background.
  • Susan Horras, director, healthcare finance policy, Health Plan and Population Health Initiatives, and Jim Landman, director, healthcare finance and policy perspectives & analysis, Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), will lead a session on the various APMs and their strengths and opportunities for improvement. HFMA has provided this article as background. Additionally, Health Policy Alternatives prepared a comprehensive overview of HHS’ APM demonstrations and initiatives.
  • In preparation for the reports from the field session at the meeting, please review the inventory of APMs at ACHP plans here. Your medical directors are working to build out this list and an updated version will be available after the meeting.
  • Grace Terrell, M.D., founding chief executive officer, Envision Genomics, will discuss how to be successful in the new payment models, including what not to do. This article captures the story of Cornerstone Health Care.
  • Dale Shaller will discuss the current landscape of consumer experience measurement, implementation challenges and potential future directions. These two articles – here and here – provide nice, brief overviews of the value and future of experience measurement.
  • Health equity opinion piece from NEJM Catalyst here.

 Further Reading (optional):
