Health organizations are working to limit opioid prescriptions to help combat the crisis. Priority Health rolled out an opioid prescription policy that eliminates 90-day prescriptions, restricting coverage to 30 days for long-acting opioids, 15 days for short-acting opioids and two prescriptions in a three-month period. Health Alliance Plan has a 30-day fill limitation and is reviewing additional changes with providers. Both plans are located in Michigan, where the overdose rate has tripled since 2012.
