Community Health Plans Again Lead National Quality Ratings

Washington, D.C. (September 25, 2017) – The Alliance of Community Health Plans member organizations once again topped national quality ratings.

“ACHP member plans continue to deliver quality care and excellent customer service to over 19 million Americans,” said ACHP President and CEO Ceci Connolly. “The NCQA ratings demonstrate ACHP plans’ commitment to quality, affordable coverage and healthier communities nationwide.”

In the 2017-2018 National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Ratings, an ACHP commercial plan was one of only five commercial plans to receive a score of 5, and 25 ACHP commercial plans received a score of 4.5. Six ACHP Medicare plans earned a rating of 5 and 12 earned a rating of 4.5. Five ACHP Medicaid plans earned a rating of 4.5.

“The ratings affirm HealthPartners’ commitment to our community and ability to provide excellent care and coverage to our members year after year,” said Andrea Walsh, President and CEO of HealthPartners in Minnesota, which received a rating of 5 for its Medicare plan. “We are thrilled to receive these high scores and be recognized as a leader in quality care by NCQA.”

This was another high-performing year for ACHP member health plans. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Northern California received a rating of 5 in both commercial and Medicare product lines. Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan in New York and Priority Health in Michigan both received top scores of 4.5 for commercial, Medicare and Medicaid plans.

The NCQA ratings compare more than 1,000 health plans in the United States and provide consumers with a practical and meaningful guide to understanding their health care options and choosing the best health plans for themselves and their families. This year, NCQA studied 1,429 health plans and rated 1,062: 498 private (commercial), 386 Medicare and 178 Medicaid. The ratings focus on how plans perform in the key quality areas of consumer satisfaction, prevention and treatment. Only 10 percent of plans included in the ratings received a rating of 4.5 or 5.0 out of 5. The 2017-2018 ratings are available on NCQA’s website.
