Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) members again lead the 2012 National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) health care rankings of health plans, published September 20 on NCQA’s website. All of the nation’s top ten Medicare plans, seven of the top ten plans in the commercial rankings and six of the top ten plans in the Medicaid rankings are offered by ACHP members.

“American consumers are looking for the best health plans to meet their needs and keep them healthy. The NCQA rankings are an essential tool for consumers, employers and other purchasers looking for the best health care for their money and the high performance of ACHP plans is a direct reflection of our commitment to delivering affordable, high quality coverage to our members and our communities,” said ACHP President and CEO Patricia Smith.

NCQA’s measurement drives quality improvement that directly affects more than 118 million Americans nationwide. Health plans are ranked based on clinical performance, member satisfaction and NCQA accreditation. NCQA publishes its Health Insurance Plan Rankings annually.

ACHP member plans regularly rank at the top of all of the major evaluations of health plan quality.  In 2011, for example, seven ACHP plans received the highest five-star rating from the Medicare Advantage program and 98 percent of Medicare beneficiaries in a five-star plan were enrolled in an ACHP member plan.

“By consistently providing the best care and service to their members, ACHP patient-centered plans’ focus on high quality care earns us deservedly high rankings year after year,” said ACHP Board Chairperson Scott Armstrong, President and CEO of Group Health Cooperative, based in Seattle.
