CLIP: Intermountain reduces pain meds prescriptions to combat opioid crisis

This year, Intermountain Healthcare began with a goal of reducing opioid prescriptions by 40 percent for acute pain (The Utah based health care system has been tracking the number of pills prescribed to patients while making sure the quality of care for patients isn’t diminished. Utah ranks 7th in the United States for overdose deaths. Since implementing the program, Intermountain Healthcare’s senior medical director reports a 32 percent reduction of prescribed opioids for acute pain.
