CLIP: Geisinger’s ‘Fresh Food Farmacy’ shows promising results

Geisinger’s “Fresh Food Farmacy” – a diabetes-prevention program that provides free food as treatment – has provided 175,000 nutritious meals per year, decreased the risk of serious complications by more than 40 percent and dropped costs by nearly 80 percent among patients in the pilot program. The initiative helps to address food insecurity as a social determinant in developing type II diabetes.
