In this op-ed published in The Buffalo News, Independent Health’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anthony Billittier explains that although price transparency is a step in the right direction, much more information is needed to truly enable patients to make better, more informed decisions about their health care. Reacting to a recent transparency order signed by President Trump, Dr. Billittier highlights initiatives from Independent Health, including providing “shoppable services” information to members as well as quality/cost reporting to physicians. “Collaborating with primary care physicians and specialists on cost and quality transparency helps providers – and patients – make better, more informed, decisions,” notes Billittier.
