Washington, D.C. – January 30, 2017 – The Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) announced today a new chair and a new vice chair of the organization’s board of directors. John D. Bennett, M.D., who currently serves as President and CEO of Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan (CDPHP) in Albany, New York, has been appointed the new chair. Steven R. Youso, President and CEO of Geisinger Health Plan in Danville, Pennsylvania, has been selected as vice chair.

Dr. Bennett succeeds Patricia R. Richards, President and CEO of SelectHealth in Salt Lake City, Utah, who served as chair of ACHP Board of Directors for the last two years.

“Dr. Bennett brings expert knowledge to the position of Chair and has been an outspoken proponent of curtailing the rising cost of health care and prescription drugs,” said Ceci Connolly President and CEO of ACHP. “ACHP and the nearly 19 million beneficiaries served by our member plans will benefit immeasurably from Dr. Bennett’s strong leadership as we enter a year filled both with opportunity and uncertainty.”

“Mr. Youso has vast experience managing plans that collaborate closely with doctors and hospitals. That unique perspective exemplifies the shared values of our four- and five-star quality health plans that are committed to the health of their communities,” added Connolly.

Dr. Bennett was named President and CEO of CDPHP in July of 2008 after serving more than 10 years as chair, vice chair and board member of the Capital Region’s leading not-for-profit health plan. During this time, CDPHP has routinely ranked as one of the highest-quality health plans in the nation and has been named one of the Best Companies to Work for in New York for nine consecutive years.

“I am honored to be part of an organization on the frontlines of innovation, advocacy and reform,” said Bennett. “As we dive headfirst into 2017, ACHP and its member plans are committed to working with policymakers on both sides of the aisle to address the affordability crisis in our country. I am confident that together we can provide consumers with high-quality care, affordable prices and superior customer service.”

Bennett is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialties in internal medicine and cardiology. Prior to joining CDPHP, Bennett served as founding member and CEO of Prime Care Physicians, PLLC. During his tenure, he co-led a team of 25 cardiologists and helped grow the practice from three employees to a 100-physician multi-specialty group.

Steven Youso became President and chief executive officer of Geisinger Health Plan on August 4, 2014. He has several decades of experience leading managed care and delivery health organizations and plans. Prior to joining Geisinger Health Plan, Youso served as the chief administrative officer at Security Health Plan, a 225,000-member health plan in Wisconsin.

“I am honored to serve on the Alliance of Community Health Plan’s (ACHP) board of directors,” he said. “It’s a privilege to work alongside a nationally recognized organization and leadership team committed to the delivery of high-quality, affordable health care services.”
