Nonprofit members are highest-rated, highest-performing commercial plans
Washington (October 10, 2019) – As consumers demand better value for their dollars spent on health care, the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) member organizations continue to outperform hundreds of other payers on key national health measures. According to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Ratings, ACHP’s nonprofit, community-based health plans provide superior coverage for screenings, assessments and coordinated care delivery related to some of the most widespread and pressing health conditions. In addition, ACHP plans continue to lead the nation in providing the highest-quality coverage and putting the patient at the center of their care.
This year’s NCQA ratings once again illustrate ACHP members’ resounding commitment to quality,” said ACHP President and CEO Ceci Connolly. “Our innovative membership continues to provide top-quality coverage to tens of millions of people across the country. By taking a comprehensive approach, our nonprofit members are improving health outcomes, leading the industry in value and guiding their communities to better health.”
According to NCQA’s Commercial Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2019-2020, ACHP members receive the highest ratings on numerous effectiveness of care measures, including:
- Controlling High Blood Pressure
- Comprehensive Diabetes Care, including Eye Exams
- All Cancer Screenings, including Breast, Cervical and Colorectal
- Postpartum Care
ACHP plans’ focus on preventive care helps keep patients healthy and out of the hospital and emergency room – two of the most expensive and medically dangerous entry points in the health system. Historically, ACHP membership has received consecutively high marks for effectiveness of care efforts, particularly with managing chronic conditions and enhancing communication across care teams. By continually innovating to provide top notch coverage and improve health outcomes, ACHP members are driving down costs and creating value across the health system.
Additionally, ACHP members also received some of the highest overall NCQA ratings for their commercial product offerings for 2019-2020. Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan (CDPHP) and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic states offered three of the five commercial products in the country to earn the top rating of 5. Twenty commercial products operated by ACHP members received a rating of 4.5.
“At CDPHP, we take high-quality, affordable health care very seriously – it is essential to our mission of keeping our members healthy, happy, safe and secure,” said John D. Bennett, MD, President and CEO of CDPHP. “I applaud the entire CDPHP team for the dedicated, collaborative efforts that helped us to achieve this outstanding level of success.”
NCQA studied 544 commercial products and rated 438. The ratings are available on NCQA’s website.
