Obama Launches Attack on Health Insurance Companies

  • President Obama and Katherine Sibelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, have delivered a speech and written letters to health insurance executives attacking the companies for premium rate increases.
  • It is uncertain whether Obama’s strategy to gain public and Congressional support with health care overhaul will prove successful. The President has asked Congress to vote on his proposal within the next ten days.

  • According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance rose by an average of 5 percent last year, while overall prices fell nearly 1 percent.
