UCare to Offer Employees Paid Leave for New Parents in 2015

UCare is adding a new parental benefit for its employees starting Jan. 1, 2015. The new benefit provides six weeks of paid leave for birthing parents and three weeks of paid leave for a non-birthing or adopting parent for a child born on or adopted after that date. At UCare, eligible employees were already able to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave after the birth or adoption of a child. The 12-week leave continues to be available and, beginning in the new year, UCare will begin paying the applicable maternity or paternity leave portion of the 12-week period. UCare is the first of Minnesota’s leading health plans to offer this employee benefit.
