Priority Health Covers Genomic Profiling for Some Cancers; Testing Part of Obama Initiative

President Obama’s 2016 budget includes a $215 initiative to encourage precision medicine, which includes genomic profiling. Priority Health is already covering the tests that analyze one’s genetic makeup to identify the best treatment for about 10 percent of metastatic cancers, including ovarian and pancreatic tumors, non-small cell lung cancer and some rare forms of leukemia. While other plans charge $5,000-$6,000 out of pocket for comprehensive genomic testing, Priority realizes it can save money and improve outcomes and quality of life by keeping patients from undergoing treatments that aren’t likely to help them
