Health care economist Uwe E. Reinhardt, Ph.D., was the keynote speaker at “Health Care in the 21st Century: A Community Call to Action,” a public forum presented by Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan (CDPHP) at the UAlbany School of Public Health last week. Reinhardt spoke about the challenges and opportunities facing health care reform in the U.S.
The event also featured a panel discussion with Dr. Reinhardt and CDPHP President and CEO John D. Bennett, M.D., along with other health care experts. The panel covered a variety of topics, including payment reform, coordination of care, quality improvement and the role of employers and hospitals in reducing cost and waste. “We have to work with providers to reduce waste,” Bennett said. “We must move off the fee-for-service model.”
