HealthPartners Mines Claims Data to Identify Disparities

Since HealthPartners began meeting with minority populations to better understand barriers to preventive screenings, the health organization was able to increase colon cancer screening rates among minority populations from 43 percent in 2009 to 67 percent today. From the meetings, HealthPartners learned that patients were avoiding screenings because of worries about missing work or finding transportation as well as negative stigma associated with the test.
