Using data from its electronic health records (EHR), Group Health Cooperative (GHC) has been developing and implementing patient information registries that can be accessed by health providers. According to Sarah Miller, executive director of GHC’s Care IT Delivery Department, these registries can be used to track medication usage or document a patient’s health history. Miller emphasized they can minimize the possibility of gaps in a patient’s care by providing physicians and caregivers a better snapshot of the person’s health. The creation and implementation of these registries are major topics in a panel discussion occurring at the Health IT Summit in Seattle on Aug. 19-20.
