Gastric Bypass Surgery Helps Diabetes but Does Not Cure It

A multi-site study investigating the relationship between gastric bypass surgery and diabetes tracked 4,434 adults at Kaiser Permanente Northern California, Kaiser Permanente Southern California and HealthPartners for 14 years. Group Health Research Institute analyzed the results, and found that while diabetes remits for some patients after gastric bypass surgery, for most people in the study, diabetes either never remitted after gastric surgery or relapsed within five years.
