CMS Report Finds UPMC Program Reduces Local Nursing Facilities’ Costs, Hospitalizations

Matt Stroud reports that UPMC Health Plan’s Initiative to Reduce Avoidable Hospitalizations among Nursing Facility Residents has reduced costs and hospitalizations in affiliated nursing facilities. Launched in 2012 through a grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the program has lowered avoidable hospitalizations by almost 25 percent and costs by 40 percent.
