Capital District’s Health Care Systems Deliver High-Quality, Cost-Effective Care

Seven regional leaders partook in a panel discussion of health care improvement last week in Albany; several areas of fragmentation were highlighted during the forum, such as patients’ transition among nurses, primary physicians and specialists and between short- and long-term care providers.

The discussion was prefaced by keynote speaker Atul Gawande, a surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and noted author, who said that some of the troubles of the broken health care system could be remedied by integration.
