Security Health Plan, a top-performer on US News & World Report’s “Best Health Plans 2005” rankings, joins national Alliance of high-quality plans working for better health care

WASHINGTON, DC – The Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) today announced that Security Health Plan (Marshfield, WI), one of the highest-quality health plans in America according to US News & World Report’s “Best Health Plans 2005” rankings, is its newest member.

“We are delighted that one of the best plans in the United States has joined us,” said Jack Ebeler, President and CEO of ACHP. “Security Health Plan’s commitment to quality, innovation and better health care for its members and all Americans speaks volumes about this organization. This addition greatly strengthens our Alliance.”

Security Health Plan was recognized by US News & World Report as the third-best Medicare heath plan in America and the eleventh best commercial plan. The rankings are based on clinical quality, member satisfaction and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accreditation scores.

“ACHP knew a lot about how we performed on the quality rankings and used a tool it created to show us precisely where we could get even better,” said Steve Youso, Security Health Plan’s Chief Administrative Officer.  “This level of insight is extremely valuable to us.  We’re happy to be on board and look forward to working with so many ofAmerica’s best health plans on issues that affect each of our organizations.”

Security Health Plan’s commercial offering also received five-star ratings on “Access to Care” and “Prevention.”

ACHP and its members developed the initial measures of health plan quality that are now administered by the independent NCQA and are the basis of US News & World Report’s “Best Health Plans 2005” quality rankings.  Today, ACHP develops interactive tools and other resources to help members assess the quality of care they provide and develop strategies to help promote even better performance.

With the addition of Security Health Plan, ACHP has 14 members representing every region of the country.  The Board of Directors Chair is Eric Schultz, President and CEO of Fallon Community Health Plan (Worcester,MA).
