Washington, D.C. – The Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) announced today that Patricia R. Richards, president and CEO of SelectHealth in Salt Lake City, Utah, has been elected by her colleagues as the new chair of the organization’s board of directors.
“Pat Richards brings superb experience in running one of the nation’s finest health plans to her role as chair of the ACHP board,” said ACHP President and CEO Patricia Smith. “Pat understands delivery systems and what it takes to make health plans and their provider partners into a strong team that truly serves their patients and customers.”
Ms. Richards succeeds Michael W. Cropp, M.D., president and CEO of Independent Health of Buffalo, N.Y., who served as chair of the ACHP Board of Directors for the last two years.
“I am deeply honored to serve as the chair of ACHP at a time of such tremendous opportunity to address some of the most pressing issues facing our country,” said Ms. Richards. “It’s a privilege to be a part of a national leadership organization that provides a forum for shared learning and innovation that supports effective delivery of high-quality, affordable health care services. My fellow board members are leaders in their own organizations, representing not-for-profit, community-focused, high-performing health plans and systems. It is my sincere pleasure to work alongside them and with the highly capable leadership and staff of ACHP.”
Ms. Richards is a registered nurse who began her career at the University of Michigan Medical Center. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications, and also completed graduate studies in public health care administration at the University of Toledo. Prior to joining SelectHealth, Ms. Richards served as executive vice president and CEO of Health Alliance Plan of Michigan, an affiliate of the Henry Ford Health System.
