CareOregon and OSF HealthPlans join ACHP, increasing national membership to 15

WASHINGTON, D.C. The Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) today announced that its Board of Directors has elected Eric H. Schultz, President and CEO of Worcester, MA-based Fallon Community Health Plan to a two-year term as Board Chair.  Schultz succeeds Cheryl M. Scott, President Emeritus of Group Health Cooperative (Seattle).

“Eric has made important contributions to the well-being of ACHP from the moment he joined the Board,” said Scott.  “His energy, vision and dedication to the mission and ideals of the organization make him eminently qualified for his new role.  I wish Eric and ACHP much success.”

Under Schultz’s leadership, Fallon Community Health Plan in 2004 was recognized as one of the ten best commercial and Medicare plans in the country by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

The ACHP Board also elected Mary Brainerd, president and CEO of Minneapolis, MN-based HealthPartners, as Vice-Chair.  NCQA recognized HealthPartners as one of the best Medicare health plans in the country in 2004.

CareOregon and OSF HealthPlans Join ACHP

ACHP today also announced that CareOregon, the Portland-based Medicaid managed care health plan, and Peoria, IL-based OSF HealthPlans have joined ACHP, increasing the total number of members to 15.

“CareOregon plays a vital role in securing the health and well being of low-income residents in communities throughout the state ofOregon,” said Jack Ebeler, President and CEO of ACHP. “We’re pleased to welcome them and know that our members will benefit greatly from their experience in the public market.”

CareOregon is a not-for-profit organization committed to improving and protecting the health of low-income Oregonians.  The plan’s network – which includes 950 primary care clinicians, 3000 specialists and 33 hospitals – serves nearly 100,000 members in 15Oregoncounties.

“We are also excited that OSF HealthPlans has become the 15th member of ACHP,” Ebeler continued.  “Their dedication to their members and the communities they serve is exemplary.  All of our members look forward to working with them and learning from them.”

OSF HealthPlans is affiliated with OSF HealthCare, anIllinoisnot-for-profit corporation owned and operated by The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.  OSF facilities and providers are the anchors for the delivery system network.  OSF HealthPlans also contracts with other hospitals, physicians and ancillary providers to expand its network, which includes 485 primary care physicians, 1133 specialist physicians and 21 hospitals inIllinois,IowaandMichigan.
