ACHP Foundation
The ACHP Foundation is dedicated to research that will enhance health care in the United States. As a 501(c)(3) corporation, the Foundation is publicly supported, with a number of projects funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Through a network of member and subcontractor organizations, the Foundation informs and facilitates dialogue about new tools, best practices and innovative initiatives to foster improvement in health care, including assuring culturally competent care and the reduction of health disparities.
Since 1995, the Foundation and its partners have directed projects in diverse areas such as preventive care, chronic care management, women's health issues and end-of-life care. Many of these efforts necessitated large-scale collaborations between public health organizations, health plans and health care providers.
The Foundation has the experience and resources to build and sustain successful collaborations. One example is the Southeast Michigan Partners Project, which couples corporations in the greater Detroit area with local health plans, providers and others to improve the rate of influenza and pneumonia vaccinations, and has helped reduce the high costs associated with treating influenza and pneumonia patients. The Foundation, in conjunction with the Partners Project, was awarded the National Partnership for Immunizations Excellence in Immunization award in 2004.
The Foundation's partnership with the CDC, the HMO Research Network and many of ACHP's member health plans and providers has led to over 60 different research projects and collaborative interventions focused on health improvement.
ACHP members sponsor some of America's most forward thinking research and development in the area of health care quality improvement. The Foundation provides a place where sponsors can develop and conduct cutting-edge research into improving the processes and outcomes of care. The Foundation fosters discussion with leading researchers, blends managed care expertise with broader health system dynamics and manages diverse projects among ACHP members as well as other components of the health care system.
